hieromachy

war between members of the clergy

Mildred had had enough of Bea's interference.  She was in charge of the floral arrangements and every time she set them up Bea would, without fail, 'tweak' them.

Mildred decided that she would retaliate by sending a clear message.  With her eyes narrowed and her mouth set with determination, she moved towards the tea table, and began to rearrange Bea's layout of tea cups.

And so began the great hieromachy of St Matthew's Parish.

beek

Dear Honeybunny

I hope that this pair of Tiffany baubles will demonstrate the sincerity with which my apology is intended.  When I suggested that you "have a beek", it did not occur to me at the time that it could be taken as an insult upon your beautiful romanesque nose rather than a suggestion to enjoy the sunshine by the poolside.

Begging your forgiveness,
Pumpkin Pie

beek

I've found the problem! We've picked up a bloody Rigel Lizard! Don't know if you've ever seen one? There -- you can make out its outline on the maintenance cam, beeking just inside the primary core housing, happy as butter.

Little bastards have by now infested most ports in the sector. They feed on hard radiation from the reactor core and jump between ships when they need to. Their teleportation range is about 100 clicks and you usually pick them up in port when an infested ship shuts down its core for maintenance. We'll be okay; this is a small one and it will maybe knock 20% off the reactor's output. But if they breed, it's a bloody nightmare.

beek

verb
to bask in the sunshine/in front of a fire.

The surviving members of the Arctic exploring group sat around their pile of wet matches, and reminisced about when they were last able to beek.

imbricate

(adj.) overlapping or layered as scales or roof tiles

His conclusion was incontrovertible. Though each bit of evidence was meaningless on its own, it was expertly woven into a tight, supple, imbricated set of defences that turned every possible challenge levelled at it.
